THE SELLERS ABOUT THEIR APARTMENT:
“we made an offer straight away. We have never regretted that decision”

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BUY THIS HOUSE BACK THEN?
The apartment had been for sale for quite some time, and at first I never went to view it. Then one day, something changed, and I decided to take a look. We had been searching for a place to buy for a few months already. The moment I walked in, I fell in love. I could see beyond all the work that needed to be done and immediately sensed its huge potential. I could picture us living there, building a life there. I loved the high ceilings with their beautiful, ornate plasterwork, and how the bedrooms were set apart from the living area—it felt like two apartments in one. I also loved the quietness of the apartment; the moment you walk up the stairs, there is a sense of calm and tranquility that immediately embraces you.

We knew we wanted this apartment. I was so excited that I made a second appointment to see it, and we made an offer straight away. We have never regretted that decision.

WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITE PARTS OF THE HOUSE?
My favorite part of the apartment is the space and the light the moment you walk in. I especially love it when we’re entertaining, particularly at Christmas, with the huge tree in the corner and the fire lit — it feels pure magic.
Once, during one of our famous parties, one of our Dutch guests came up to us and said, “Do you realize how unusual it is to have such a spacious front room? This is not the norm in central Amsterdam.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL PLACES AROUND THE AREA THAT YOU VISITED OFTEN?
We were truly blessed to have Nieuwmarkt on our doorstep, one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam. The area blends cultures beautifully, making the neighborhood vibrant, open-minded, and endlessly interesting. We bought our fruits and vegetables from Nette, who runs the market every day, and on Saturdays all the locals come together for the weekly market—it really feels like the heart of the community. We were also lucky to have the Grand Hotel Amsterdam just across from us. In summer, it’s a joy to sit in their garden with a lovely glass of bubbles, soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. We were especially fortunate to live so close to Central Station, less than a ten-minute walk from our home. It made traveling for work incredibly easy—when I landed at Schiphol Airport, I could be walking through my own front door in under forty minutes.

WHAT IS THE BEST MEMORY THAT POPS UP WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE HOUSE?
I especially loved Christmas time there. The twelve-foot tree in the corner and the fire lit made the room feel truly magical—a feeling that will stay with us forever. At night, I loved looking out of the window and watching the canal boats glide by; it was so picturesque, like a living painting.
In summer, the way the light from the canal bounced off the walls of our front room felt almost unreal, as if you were living inside a dream.
